Print out one of these flow lists and keep adding to both columns as you work. Don’t just consider when you’re in the writer’s seat! It could be that a glass of wine the night before hurts flow the next day, or that run you took hours before writing actually helps you flow when you’re working at the page.
What does it feel like when you’re in flow? Do your fingers always tingle? Your temp rise? Your stomach fill with butterflies? The more you know you’re in flow, the more we can see what factors consistently contribute to it. Spend some time being mindful in the writer’s seat of what happens in your body and your environment when you are in flow. Bonus: Explain to someone in your life what flow feels like for you.
