The writer hasn't figured out how to identify what drives characters' actions with workable specificity. Most craft books talk about desire as though it's one single thing you need to figure out. It's actually FOUR distinct threads. I call these threads "Character Keys."
The writer hasn't learned how to plot from the inside out. They impose a plot on a character and try to make that poor person fit into whatever box the plot is.
The writer doesn't know how to create or use obstacles and stakes in each and every scene. They're missing out on maximizing tension, suspense, drama, pacing, and continual reader buy-in.
The writer needs work on how to write a bingeable chapter: one that is driven by micro desire ("objectives") and obstacles, with clear "profluence" at the end.
